The TAG Heuer Monaco black sunray dial is available on a black alligator strap or on steel. Its blue sunburst pendant recalls, with its combination of red, white and blue, the very first Monaco of 1969. Both models have square counters at 3 and 9 o’clock and, in the center, a small red seconds hand.
But the originality of these new Monaco undoubtedly comes from the steel bracelet which had not been seen for almost two decades on this collection. This particular type of bracelet with “H” shaped links was used for Monaco watches of the 1970s.
The TAG Heuer designers wanted to reintroduce this style element for the 2020 models and were inspired by the archive pieces of the TAG Heuer museum in La Chaux-de-Fonds. In fact, the original steel bracelet has been redesigned to meet current standards and improve wearing comfort.
Watch strap
True to its original design, the strap is wider at the lugs to support the weight of the watch head, and slimmer where it wraps around the wrist for added comfort. In short, it is in decline, like all metal bracelets worthy of the name.
The horizontal bars are connected to smaller horizontal links and the set closes with a butterfly buckle engraved with the TAG Heuer logo, a detail that shows that it is a contemporary reinterpretation of the Monaco and not of a piece from the heritage collection.

This 39 mm tricompax (column wheel) chronograph retains its water resistance to 100 meters. It carries the Caliber Heuer 02, a 168-component “engine” developed and produced by the TAG Heuer manufac- turer in Switzerland and which can also be found in the Autavia and Carrera collections.
This automatic movement offers a comfortable 80-hour power reserve; it is visible through the sapphire crystal case back.
